Well, on our backs with wrenchs in hand we started the big rebuild by taking everything apart...........more than we bargained for.

TIP #1....Learned by experience....Buy a vehicle that has not been modified before..... if you can.  You can save in several ways.  Mostly time and money........but far less frustration as well.  It has been our experience that you typically pay more for work that someone else has already done ....but....chances are, it hasn't been done right and you end up paying twice for their mistakes in an increased purchase price and for your having to redo that work.  If you are planning to do a total rebuild anyway, buy a stripped down, very basic vehicle, drive train optional.

As we got down to the nitty-gritty of dismantling, we found that there were cracks in the frame, too many worn-out parts to comprehend and rust a-go-go.  But that was okay, we were on a mission.  Not a lot of bolts were saved for identification later purposes........we tried but so many were cut and torched that it became a waste of time.....so don't worry about it if you can't save and document everything.   Half of them usually aren't the original anyway.
